If there’s one thing that should never be missing in my home, it’s flowers. Real, fake, painted—it doesn’t matter, they just have to be there. They instantly add a touch of elegance to any room, and when fresh, they even smell wonderful. That’s why today I thought I’d give you some flower design tips on how to decorate your home with fresh flowers, trying to preserve them in tip-top condition for as long as possible.
5 tips for keeping vase-grown flowers fresh for as long as possible
The most beautiful bouquets, synonymous with elegance and refinement, are always those with dense bunches of fresh flowers, of the same species and in a single color. You can also mix different types in multiple colors, as long as they’re similar. However, I recommend limiting yourself to two colors to avoid a chaotic effect. That said, how can you keep them beautiful and healthy in a vase for as long as possible? By following these simple tips, I’ve managed to make bouquets of roses and tulips last over a week. Daisies and gerberas last even longer.
When purchasing, select only flowers that are still in bud. This will give them plenty of time to open and ensure they don’t lose a single moment of bloom.
i- Fill the vase in which they will be placed with room-temperature water.
ii- Cut the flower stems diagonally, remembering to do so under running water.
iii- Remove any leaves that remain below the water level in the vase.
iv- Add a few drops of bleach to the water in the vase to prevent the formation of bacteria, or alternatively, use the special nutrients often sold with bouquets.
v- Of course, as soon as the floral arrangement begins to wilt, it should be thrown away without feeling guilty. It takes just a moment to go from chic to shabby.
How to Decorate Every Room in Your Home with Flowers
Not all flowers blend perfectly with every room and its decor. It’s good to have at least a general understanding of not only the meaning of flowers, but also which type and where. Whether they’re in cylindrical vases in a bouquet, or a single flower in a series of identical vases, we must first choose them to match the style and colors of our homes. We must also position them in strategic spots, usually near a light source and in the area where we want to draw attention. As ornaments or centerpieces, the choice is ours.
In the kitchen, tulips and lilies of the valley, succulents, and mixed bouquets (but not too much) are perfect. Roses are perfect in the living room and bedroom, while orchids and lavender are the best in the bathroom. To be honest, I put tulips, roses, and lavender everywhere, but since I have a typically shabby chic home, I don’t think they clash so much from one room to another.
And what about you? How do you prefer to decorate your home with flowers?
